Toyota New Zealand confirms Apple CarPlay® is coming

Toyota New Zealand can confirm that Apple CarPlay® and Android® Auto will be rolled out progressively to New Zealand models from the fourth quarter of 2019 onwards.

It will also be available as an update for a number of current generation models including Camry, Corolla hatch, Prius, and the newly released RAV4 and Hiace in the fourth quarter of 2019 at a cost to the customer.  
 
“Introducing Apple CarPlay® and Android® Auto to our already advanced multimedia system has always been on our technology roadmap for customers,” says Neeraj Lala, Toyota New Zealand’s General Manager of New Vehicles and Product Planning.
 
“Connectivity is a critical ingredient as we move towards autonomous vehicles.”
 
Another critical ingredient for autonomy is advanced safety, which Toyota have achieved through having advanced Toyota Safety Sense packages available, where possible, on all grades including entry level vehicles.
 
“Safety and reliability have always been the cornerstone of our product strategies for customers,” says Mr Lala.
 
“Now we have achieved our safety objective through the addition of Toyota Safety Sense across all new model ranges, we are full steam ahead with connectivity which includes Apple CarPlay® and Android® Auto.”
 
Toyota’s Safety Sense technology package is now in its second generation and brings unprecedented levels of advanced safety technology to Toyota vehicles.
 
Locally, Toyota has sold over 30,000 new vehicles with the Toyota Safety Sense package, while globally the number has reached 10 million1.
